What is database marketing?
Database marketing aims to contact customers directly, nowadays via email, delivering personalised messages to help promote a product or service. Database marketing in particular is more focused on statistically determining which customers are most likely to respond favourable to these communiqués, then targeting those particular groups.
What does a database marketing executive do?
At the junior end of the job scale, there are database marketing executives, who are heavily involved in the daily management and maintenance of multiple databases, as well as liasing with clients on a one-to-one level. It often requires a lot of time spent on analysing campaign performance, marking out what the key performance indicators are, and using this information to help devise strategy. Being a database marketing executive also requires a level of technical skill, often requiring an understanding of database systems such as Access or spreadsheet applications like Excel.
Getting a job in database marketing
Database marketing is a career that rewards those with the analytical and presentation skills to produce results and inspire confidence in their clients. With even a basic knowledge of maths and database software, one to can rise to the top from a database marketing executive through to a database marketing manager very quickly, earning between £40,000 and upwards.
